Back to Cool: New Season, New Clothes, New Goals

Back to Cool: New Season, New Clothes, New Goals

If you live in NYC then you know what time it is. The leaves are changing color and falling to the ground, the rain and the wind and the cold and the pumpkin spice lattes, they’re all back. With mixed emotions I welcome the change, not only in my physical surrounding but within myself—mentally, spiritually emotionally.

Is it just me or does everyone else get more in their feels when the season changes? NO? Just me? Okurr. Maybe that’s the Capricorn in me. Or maybe it’s just that sense of change that’s in the air. I feel renewed after my summer month off from school and September feels like ‘Back-to-Grind’ time. Not like we ever stop hustling in NYC because that runs in our veins, but my workload is increased and it’s time to re-focus, plan and execute.

As a Capricorn woman, we intently focus our efforts on climbing the mountain of our ambitions, like the Goat that symbolizes our sign. For a long time I didn’t see these ambitious mountain-climbing, goal-crushing qualities in myself. I thought for sure I had been mis-categorized. I realized what was overshadowing my successes— my constant criticism of self.

Let’s have a moment of honesty: Sometimes I don’t meet my goals. Sometimes I make excuses. Sometimes I let circumstance get in my way. I have a sneaky feeling that I’m not alone in this. But the good news is that the only person standing in my way, is ME.

I’m constantly learning that everything is about balance: Set goals and meet those goals! but if you don’t? That’s okay! Make new goals and don’t be so hard on yourself. “Just keep swimming”, as a wise fish once said. That’s the exciting thing about a new season and a new shift in time, it gives a marker for change. Not just in our environment, or in our style, but also within your self.

Making goals for myself and the new season forces me to hold myself accountable, and I thought I’d share a few of mine to encourage you to do the same. In the next 5 months I will:-

  • Find & research an organization and volunteer my time toward a cause I truly believe in

  • Take my health seriously and schedule all of my Doc visits

  • Graduate! Okurrrrrrrrrr

  • Increase my credit score by 50pts at least

  • Visit another country

What goals do you have for yourself? Are you encouraging yourself or being your worse enemy? Let me know in the comments. Just remember, we are human but also magic.

Sending love.

xx
